Irish Water is about to begin infrastructural projects in Maynooth & Kildare town.
4.3 kilometres of "aging" water-mains will be replaced in both towns.
In addition, 332 properties directly to the new water mains in the areas of O’Neill Park and Old Greenfield in Maynooth and Assumpta Villas, Campion Crescent, Clearmore Terrace/ Academy Street, Lourdesville, Magee Terrace, Melitta Road and Rowanville / Curragh Road in Kildare Town.
The next phase of this project involves preliminary site investigative works which will commence in the coming weeks.
It is estimated that construction works will start in winter 2017
The proposed works will be carried out in short sections to minimise impact on residents, businesses and road users.
The works will involve some short-term water shut offs.
The project team will ensure that householders and businesses are advised of any works in their area in advance and will be given 48 hours prior notice of water shut offs.
Commenting on the project, Ivan Corcoran, Capital Programmes Lead, East and Midlands Region said “The replacement of these aging water mains in Kildare Town and Maynooth will ensure that customers will have a more reliable and secure water supply, improve water quality and remove lead connections where they are encountered. The investment will enable Irish Water to reduce lost water in the network by reducing leakage which occurs on ageing water mains. Once the project is completed residents and businesses will benefit from improved water pressure to their properties.”
