Bad Day For The Irish On Day One Of USPGA

: 08/10/2017 - 17:19

Two bogeys in three holes have seen Shane Lowry fall back to 1-over par in his opening round at the USPGA - the final Major of the year.

Three successive double-bogeys have seen Padraig Harrington drop to 6-over.

Gary Woodland and Jim Herman currently hold a joint one-shot lead at Quail Hollow on 3-under.

Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell both head out this evening.

Tributes have been flowing in for Tony Keady who died in the early hours of this morning.

The 53-year old only fell ill on Tuesday.

Keady became an iconic GAA figure in the eighties, winning two all Ireland's as well as the hurler of the year prize in 1988.

The GAA have cancelled a number of tickets for the All Ireland Football semi final meeting of Tyrone and Dublin.

Some tickets for the game appeared on secondary selling site Seatwave for above cost price.

The GAA have asked such sites to remove any tickets they may have listed, and urged supporters not to buy tickets from unauthorised sellers.

Meath official David Coldrick will take charge of that meeting of Dublin and Tyrone on August 27th.

While Maurice Deegan will referee Kerry's semi final with Mayo the week before.

Deegan black carded Lee Keegan in last year's All Ireland final replay.

The Irish management have reported a clean bill of health following last night's 19-17 victory over Australia in the Women's World Cup.

Aside from bumps and bruises there are no serious causes for concern ahead of Sunday's second Pool C match against Japan.
