The county football championships resumed last night, with Monasterevin playing Ellistown in the Courtyard Hotel, Leixlip Intermediate championship.

Approaching half time, a Tristan Kennedy long range attempt for a point ended up in the Ellistown net to give them a 4 point half time lead.

Early in the 2nd half, they extended their lead to 6 points, but then Ellistown took over with 5 consecutive points to reduce the margin to 1.

Monasterevin steadied with two points to win by 1-10 to 10 points.

Today, in Hawkfield, in the Tom Cross Junior championship: Caragh vs Ballykelly at 2pm, followed by Rathcoffey vs Rheban at 3.30pm.

In the Courtyard Hotel, Leixlip intermediate grade: Kill vs Kilcullen at 4.15pm, followed by Castlemitchell vs Sallins at 6pm: both games in Conleth’s Park.

Also today, the county’s minor hurlers play Kerry in Roscommon in the All Ireland minor B hurling Quarter final.

Also, off is the Kildare/Wexford All Ireland Intermediate Camogie game, as Wexford gave a walkover.
