Kildare Students Secure Seven Awards At BT Young Scientist Exhibition.

Students from Kildare have secured seven awards at this year's BT Young Scientist Exhibition.

In all 12 projects were entered into this year's awards from 7 Kildare schools.

Amongst the winners, pupils from St Wolstan's Community School received a special award for their project investigating the use and awareness of e-cigarettes among teens.

Odhran Brady from Salesian College was recognised for his research which examined ways of reducing insurance claims costs relating to whiplash. Evan Mather from the Patrician Secondary School was awarded for his research comparing organic spider silk and silk-like polymers.

15-year-old Simon Meehan from Coláiste Choilm in Ballincollig, Co.Cork was crowned the overall  winner last night for his project about the medicinal use of plants to fight illnesses.

As well as the trophy and a cheque for € 7,500, he'll go on to represent Ireland at the EU Contest for Young Scientists in Dublin this September.
