Evening Update: Hierro Takes Over As Spain Manager and USA/Canada/Mexico To Host 2026 World Cup

: 06/13/2018 - 17:10

Spain Federation’s Sporting Director Fernando Hierro will manage Spain through the World Cup following Julen Lopetegui's sacking this morning.

The Federation was angered at discovering Lopetegui's pending move to Real Madrid just five-minutes before it was announced.

Hierro is a former Spain and Real Madrid captain, who, also, had a spell with Bolton in the Premier League.

Spain begin their Group B campaign against Portugal in Sochi on Friday.

Mexico will become the first country to host the World Cup finals for a third time.

Their joint-bid with the United States and Canada, to host the 2026 finals, beat Morocco's bid by 134-votes to 65 at today's FIFA Congress in Moscow.

Republic of Ireland defender Greg Cunningham has become Cardiff City's second signing of the summer, joining from Preston for an undisclosed fee.

The Kildare and District Underage League (KDUL) has qualified for today’s quarter finals of the national Kennedy Cup in Limerick against the Limerick District League.

Yesterday, Kildare beat Cork 2 nil and South Dublin by 4 nil.

The game kicked off at 5pm and currently (5.10pm) nil all.

Michael Ryan and his management team still have the backing of the Tipperary County Board.

The Board says Ryan's position as manager is not up for discussion, and they'll be honouring the three-year deal that only began last September.

Galway play their first ever game in the Leinster Under 21 Hurling Championship this evening against Offaly in O'Connor Park.

Mullingar is the venue for the night's other quarter final between Westmeath and Dublin.

Tonight’s local fixtures: at 7.30, first named at home
