According to today's Irish Independent, Tyrone defender Cathal McCarron is on the verge of a club switch to Athy.
The Dromore player tweeted following the his club's Tyrone senior football championship defeat last weekend that he was saying ‘goodbye’ to his home club.
McCarron, a 2011, '13 and '16 All-Star nominee, has previous links with Athy, where he attended Cuan Mhuire for gambling addiction.
He trained with Athy during his time there and his partner is a native of Athy.
Club chairman Marty McEvoy is quoted in today's report: “The club would be aware that he (McCarron) would hope to move to Athy".
Kfm understands that the player has, for a period in the past, resided in county Kildare.
If the 29 years old transfers to Athy, questions would arise whether the long trip to Tyrone might have implications for his intercounty future with Mickey Harte's side. If that was an issue, Kildare would hardly be slow in offering a player of his calibre a place in the Lilywhite squad.
