Report that Tyrone Football Star Transferring To Athy & Champions League Tonight

According to today's Irish Independent, Tyrone defender Cathal McCarron is on the verge of a club switch to Athy.

The Dromore player tweeted following the his club's Tyrone senior football championship defeat last weekend that he was saying ‘goodbye’ to his home club.

McCarron, a 2011, '13 and '16 All-Star nominee, has previous links with Athy, where he attended Cuan Mhuire.  He trained with Athy during his time there.  His partner is a native of Athy.

Club chairman Marty McEvoy is quoted in today's report:  “The club would be aware that he (McCarron) would hope to move to Athy

Brian Cody will continue as the Kilkenny Senior Hurling manager for a 20th season.

The 11 time All Ireland winning manager and his back room team were ratified for another season by the County Board last night.

Cody has overseen 11 All-Irelands and eight Allianz League titles to date.
