Listen: Govt. Defeated In Vote To Retain The Age Of Digital Consent At 13.

: 05/17/2018 - 10:19

Those campaigning to raise the age of digital consent say the new age limit of 16 means the internet will be better for everyone.

Last night, the Government was narrowly defeated on its proposal for the age to remain at 13 - by 56 votes to 51.

Cyber psychologist Mary Aiken says it is not an experimental victory as there are huge fines associated with targeting children online.

She also says it's up to online service providers to ensure they are dealing with verified accounts and not false ones created by young people.
