Kildare County Council spent €5,314 on sending its delegation to New York for St. Patrick's Day this year.
That's according to an investigation conducted by journalist and lecturer, Ken Foxe.
Data released to Mr. Foxe by Kildare County Council under the Freedom of Information Act shows that the council spent €2,942 on flights, €1,922 on accommodation and €449 on "all other" expenses.
Two people travelled to the US on KCC's behalf: Mayor of Kildare, Ivan Keatley and Chief Executive of the council, Peter Carey.
In all, local authorities spent €200,000 sending 60 councillors away on official business on St. Patrick's Day.
Limerick spent the most, at just over €28,000, for a delegation of 6 people.
8 councils did not dispatch any delegations abroad.
