Listen: 35,000 People In Kildare Living Below Poverty Line

Social Justice Ireland says there's something seriously wrong if people in employment can't be guaranteed a life free from poverty.

Figures show over 100 thousand people with a job are at risk of poverty.

35,000 people in Kildare are living below the poverty line.

780,000 people in Ireland today live on incomes below the poverty line.

Of those, 104,000 people are in employment, and a quarter are children.

The think tank says it shows the system is broken and workers' rights are not being protected or prioritised by policy-makers.

Social Justice Ireland Chief Executive Dr. Sean Healy says the Government's failing to tackle this problem:
