Catherine entered politics 30 years ago as a town councillor for her local area, following years of local community activism on a range of issues affecting her community. Catherine was first elected to Dáil Eireann in 2005 following a by-election.

During this 32nd Dáil, Catherine holds membership on the Public Accounts Committee, Transport, Tourism and Sports Committee, she was also a member on the all party Oireachtas committee on the Eighth Amendment  of the Constitution.

Catherine is vocal on a wide range of issues including institutional reform, climate change, planning sustainable communities and affordable housing and fighting for those most vulnerable in society. Catherine has and continues to be a strong advocate for more accountability and integrity in politics and public life.
