Tues pm Sport: The FAI Announces New CEO; Man City Could Go 2nd This Evening

The FAI has appointed former newspaper publisher Paul Cooke as the new executive lead of the association.

Waterford native and accountant, Cooke, formerly an executive with the Star newspaper, was elected vice president of the association at the AGM in July and he now basically becomes interim CEO.

Premier League champions Manchester City will hope to get their season back on track when they face Burnley.

They're currently eleven points behind league leaders Liverpool - but a win tonight would take them level with second placed Leicester.

Last night, Moorefield named Roli Sweeney as their new senior football manager..

He announced his retirement from playing at the weekend and succeeds Ross Glavin who has joined Jack O’Connor’s county management team.

Roli represented Kildare for over a decade.  Following that, he was a selector with Niall Carew at Waterford and Sligo, and also a selector with Cian O’Neill.

He played in his 13th county senior football final this year, unfortunately suffering a serious knee injury in the drawn game.

Roli will have two other club stalwarts Ian Lonergan and Patrick Murray as selectors

Pat Gilroy and Dessie Farrell are among the leading contenders.

The IRFU has announced that Paul Dean has stepped down from his post as Ireland team manager.

Dean, who played for Ireland at the inaugural World Cup in 1987, was part of the Ireland set-up since succeeding Mick Kearney in 2016.

Defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan moved into the Betway UK Championship fourth round with a comfortable victory over Thailand's Noppon Saengkham.

O'Sullivan, who is chasing his eighth UK title, was in dominant form at York Barbican, winning 6-2.
