Listen: Kildare TD Says Supreme Court Decision Puts Any Questions On The Strength Of Parliamentary Privilege Beyond Doubt.

: 03/06/2019 - 12:48

A Kildare TD says yesterday's Supreme Court decision on Denis O'Brian's appeal is important, "irrespective of the particular case"

Two TDs, North Kildare deputy, Catherine Murphy, and Sinn Fein's Pearse Doherty, revealed some of Mr. O'Brien's private banking details in the Dáil, after he'd secured an injunction preventing a media outlet reporting the information.

Mr. O'Brien says he fully accepts the decision of the Supreme Court which ruled they had no influence on what the TDs said as they were under parliamentary privilege.

Social Democrat, Catherine Murphy, says the decision is notable, in that it upholds and protects, parliamentary privilege
