EirGrid has begun consultation on the construction of 3 new substations, one of which is in Kildare.
An Bord Pleanala notes a "Pre-Application Consultation - Electricity Development" for facilities at Dunstown, near Kilcullen, and in Clare and Galway.
Last month, EirGrid began a public consultation a new electricity infrastructure project in Kildare, Meath & Dublin.
Power is currently transported cross-country on two 400 kV lines from the Moneypoint station in Clare to the Dunstown substation in Kildare and Woodland substation in Meath.
The lines are over 30 years old.
The project to replace them and strengthen supply is known as EirGrid Capital Project 966.
It is likely to involve building a new circuit that links the Dunstown and Woodland substations.
