Serious concerns are being raised about drug treatment services in Co. Kildare.
77 people from the county are having to travel Dublin to avail of drug treatment services.
There are 115 people seeking drug treatment in Kildare through their local GPs and another 145 via community pharmacists.
The Minister of State at the Dept. of Health, Catherine Byrne, has confirmed to Kildare North Fianna Fáil TD, Frank O'Rourke, that people are having to travel "as there is no dedicated drug treatment centre to cover Kildare."
Deputy O'Rourke says “The provision of treatment services in Kildare has been identified as a priority by both the Government and the HSE. A new National Drugs Strategy is expected to be published later this year and I will be keeping the pressure on to ensure Kildare gets adequate drug treatment services.”
