Thurs am Update: USPGA Begins; Busy Club Weekend Starts Tonight with IFC

Team Ireland has two chances to win a medal at the European Athletics Championships in Berlin this evening.

Thomas Barr runs in the 400 metres hurdles final, while Leon Reid competes in the final of the 200 meters.

Zak Curran and Mark English both go in the 800-metres heats this morning, while Laura Wylie competes in the triathalon this afternoon.


It is the opening day of the final golf major of the year, the U-S P-G-A Championship.

Shane Lowry is the first of the Irish due to tee off in St Louis at 1.35 this afternoon.

He will be followed by Padraig Harrington, Paul Dunne and Rory McIlroy.

McIlroy is grouped with defending champion Justin Thomas and Tiger Woods.

He finished joint runner up at the Open and in fifth place at the Masters.


Cork City host Rosenborg in the third qualifying round of the Europa League this evening.

The Norwegians were knocked out of the Champions League by Celtic last week, but they have won all four of their previous ties against Irish opposition.

Celtic will need to score in Greece next week to reach the Champions League qualification playoffs.

The Scottish champions were held to 1-all draw by A-E-K Athens in the first leg of their tie at Parkhead last night
