Friday pm Update: Premier League Kick-off This Evening; O'Gara Into World Rugby Hall of Fame.

The new Premier League season kicks off at Old Trafford this evening.

Manchester United get their bid to win a first league title since 2013 underway at home to 2016 champions Leicester City.


The Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup begins this evening.

Last years beaten finalists Dundalk are home to Cobh Ramblers.


At the European Athletics Championships Phil Healy goes in lane 6 in the 200m semi finals at 6:55.

The 23 year old qualified automatically for the semi finals this morning, finishing third in her heat in a time of 23.34 seconds.

Ciara Mageean is into Sunday's 1500 metres final after a second place finish in her heat this morning.



Kevin Kisner holds the outright lead after completing a great front 9 on day 2 of the US PGA Championship.

The American had 6 birdies before the turn and is 9 under par.

Shane Lowry will resume from 1 under par at 7 o'clock.

Rory McIlroy is a further shot back on level par - he tees off at 7:48pm.

Padraig Harringon and Paul Dunne will resume from 1 over and 3 over par respectively.



Former Munster and Ireland out-half Ronan O'Gara is to be inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame.

The Cork man earned 128 caps for Ireland in a 13-year international career and is the country's all-time record points scorer (1,083).

He was pivotal in Munster's European Cup triumphs in 2006 and 2008, and won three Celtic League titles.

Liza Burgess (Wales), Stephen Larkham (Australia), Pierre Villepreux (France) and Bryan Williams (New Zealand) will all also be inducted into the Hall of Fame on 12 September in Rugby, England.


Kildare U20 footballer, Jimmy Hyland, has been named as the EirGrid GAA U20 Player of the Province for Leinster.

Hyland put in a man of the match performance in helping Kildare to their first provincial title scoring 8 points whilst setting up a penalty that Tony Archbold converted.

Kildare then went on to face Kerry in the All-Ireland semi-final and defeated them by 1 point with the final score 1-14 to 1-13.

The Ballyteague player scored 1-8 and claimed the EirGrid U20 Man of the Match award.

Kildare then went onto face Mayo in a thrilling EirGrid GAA Football U20 All-Ireland Final with the final score 1-18 to 1-16.

He kicked 10 points in that game and picked up his third Man of the match award of the championship
