Maynooth University is welcoming the investment of €80 million in higher education infrastructure.
The money is to be used to ensure there's enough space for the growing number of students taking up college places.
Prof. Philip Nolan, president of the Kildare university says " The Higher Education Strategic Infrastructure Fund is an important step in addressing the larger problem of funding a third level system in Ireland which must grow further to meet the needs of an increasing population.”
Junior Education Minister Mary Mitchell O'Connor says third level institutions have to apply for the funding.
Maynooth University has accounted for 22% of all enrolment growth in the university sector in the decade since 2008.
