Kildare County Council is "confident" that capacity created by M7 up-grades will future proof the route for years to come.
The construction of an additional lane, in both directions, between the M9 Interchange and Junction 8 Johnstown, are scheduled for completion in April.
Linked projects, the Sallins By-Pass and the Osberstown fly-over, will be finished later this year.
The entire scheme is costing in the region of €110 million.
Director of Services at Kildare County Council, Niall Morrissey, says he believes the up-grades mean the route will be able to cope with increases in traffic volumes in the years ahead.
