The jury in the Naas Circuit Court trial of a woman accused of dangerous driving causing the deaths of four of her friends has been asked to leave aside any sympathy.
Aisling Midleton, Niamh Doyle, Gemma Nolan and Chermain Carroll all died when the car they were in crashed into a van in Athy, Co. Kildare.
It happened in good driving conditions on a night in January 2015 as they were on their way back from an evening of ice-skating in Kilkenny.
Dayna Kearney from Crossneen, Co. Carlow, is also accused of knowingly driving a defective vehicle.
It is the prosecution’s case that her 2001 Volkswagen Polo went out of control and crashed due to an under inflation of its tyres.
