Kfm Lunchtime Sports Up-Date: Callaghan announces inter-county retirement, Its All Ireland Football semi final day and Premier league returns with a bang

In breaking sports news this lunchtime , long serving Kildare footballer Eamon Callaghan has announced his retirement from inter-county football.

In a statement posted on his twitter account this lunchtime the Nass clubman thanked all the players and mangers he had played with and worked under in his 17 years inter county career.

In his post, Callaghan also thanked his family, friends and Kildare followers for their support throughout his inter-county career.

Finishing his post the popular player said he was now looking forward to supporting Kildare in the years to come.

The first of the All-Ireland Football semi-finals takes place this evening between Dublin and Galway at 5pm.

It's the first Championship meeting between the two sides since 1983, and Galways first final 4 appearance in 17 years.

In local action Last night's Kildare GAA Club Results were as follows

Senior Football League Div. 3 Final it finsihed Ballyteague 1-13 Eadestown 0-12

in the Junior Football Championship Section B it was Robertstown 4-12 Castlemitchell 3-9

In the Reserve B Football Championship Quarter Final: Raheens were 1-17  to 1-12  winners over Johnstownbridge

In the  Intermediate Hurling Championship Group B  it finished Moorefield 1-15 Celbridge 0-10

In the  Junior Hurling Championship

Kilcock beat Sarsfileds  4-14 to 2-8 and it finsihed Éire Óg Corra Choill 3-10 Sallins 2-12

In the Senior Football League Div 1 Final its Moorefield V Athy at 3pm, preceded by the Div 2 Final: Johnstownbridge V Maynooth at 1:15: both games in St. Conleth’s Park

in the  Junior Football Championship, Section A its Rheban V Miltown in Hawkfield at 1:30.

In the  Intermediate Football Championship, Group D its  Kilcullen V Kill in Hawkfield at 3:00

Moving to the  Intermediate Hurling Championship:

In Group A  its St. Columba V Ardclough in Clane

and Group B Coill Dubh  take on St Laurence's in Round Towers, with both games throwing in at  2pm

Manchester United got their Premier League campaign off to a winning start last night at home, beating Leicester 2-1.

Paul Pogba scored the opener from the penalty spot after three minutes.

Luke Shaw got United's second in the 83rd minute, before Jamie Vardy scored a late goal for Leicester.

There are 6 games today.

In the  12.30 kick off , Newcastle 2-1 down at home to Spurs

At 3,

Chelsea go to Huddersfield; Bournemouth play promoted Cardiff City; Crystal Palace are away to Fulham; Watford are home to Brighton.

At 5.30, Everton are away to promoted Wolves.

Shane Lowry is 4 under par at the US PGA, but he has to finish his second round today.

Lowry started round 2 on one under par and made three birdies in his first ten holes before play was suspended due to weather.

Rory McIlroy resumes on the eighth hole today on level par.

Padraig Harrington is 1 over after 8; Paul Dunne is 4 over after 6.

Gary Woodland leads by a shot on 10 under, from Kevin Kisner

The projected cut is currently at level par.
