There are calls for the Minister for Transport to extend disabled parking permits to those with "hidden disabilites".
Fianna Fáil TD for Kildare North, James Lawless, has criticised Shane Ross for refusing to review the criteria for the permits.
Lawless said hidden disabilities can include dementia and that society doesn't do enough to "support those of us with hidden disabilities".
Following a Parliamentary Question on the matter the minister said that permits are only available for those who are blind or whose mobility is severely restricted.
The minister cited availability of disabled parking spaces as a concern for expanding the scheme.
