Just over 66,000 people are waiting to see an ear, nose and throat consultant.
The Irish Medical Organisation says more than half a million people are waiting to see a consultant across a range of specialties.
It says the delay is due to over 500 permanent consultant posts remaining empty or only temporarily filled across the country.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation's General Secretary, Naas woman, Phil Ni Sheaghdha says the lack of consultants is putting pressure on front-line workers:
