Listen: Ernest Shackleton's Ship's Cabin Will Be Brought To Athy Next Year.

: 10/12/2017 - 16:39

The restoration of polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ship cabin will be completed next year.

Shackleton passed away following a heart attack in the cabin in 1922.

It was then used as a garden shed in Norway for 90 years to being brought for restoration in Letterfrack, Co Galway.

The painstaking restoration work is being carried out by Sven Habermann of Conservation Letterfrack.

It will soon make its final journey across Ireland, to be displayed in the explorer’s home town of Kilkea, in the Shackleton Museum at  Athy Heritage Centre

Margaret Walsh of Athy Heritage Centre joined Ciara Plunkett on this afternoon's edition of Kildare Focus.
