Friday Lunch Update: Kildare vs Wicklow in Leinster SFC 2019; County SHC & IFC Finals Weekend; Provinces Announce Champions Cup Teams.

Kildare will play Wicklow in the 2019 Leinster senior football championship.

The Leinster football championship Draw took place last night.

This year’s semi finalists: Dublin, Carlow Longford and Laois are automatically in the Quarter Final, where they await the winners of Round 1.

The Round 1 Draw is:

Louth v Wexford (winners vs Dublin in the quarter final)

Wicklow v Kildare (winners vs Longford in the quarter final)

Meath v Offaly (winners v Carlow in the quarter final)

Westmeath v Laois is a quarter final

Semi Finals

Winners Louth/Wexford/Dublin vs winners Wicklow/Kildare/Longford

Winners Meath/Offaly/Carlow v winners Westmeath/Laois


The draws for the 2019 Christy Ring Cup were also made yesterday.

• Two groups of four teams to be played on a ‘round-robin’ basis.

Group 1: Donegal, Wicklow, Down, Derry

Group 2: Roscommon, Kildare, Meath, London

Round 1, Kildare are away to Roscommon; Wicklow away to Donegal.

Round 2, Kildare home to Meath; Wicklow home to Down

Round 3, Kildare away to London; Wicklow away to Derry


It’s a major weekend on the club scene with the Haven Hire senior and junior county hurling finals scheduled tomorrow; and the Pittman Traffic and Safety Intermediate football final Two Mile House vs Monasterevin on Sunday.

Shane Long has been passed fit for the Republic of Ireland's Nations League game with Denmark tomorrow.

Because of the poor weather, the KDFL is reviewing its fixtures for the weekend.  A number of Cup finals are scheduled.

The return of Jonathan Sexton is one of nine changes made to the Leinster side for tonight's Heineken Champions Cup opener with Wasps at the Aviva.

The other changes to the backs see Garry Ringrose, Jordan Larmour and Luke McGrath come into the side.

There's an all-new front row of Cian Healy, Sean Cronin and Tadhg Furlong, with Josh Van der Flier and Jack Conan starting in the back row.


Duncan Williams will start at scrum-half for Munster in their Heineken Champions Cup opener at Premiership leaders Exeter tomorrow.

Centre Dan Goggin gets his first European start in midfield beside Rory Scannell.

Mike Hale and Chris Cloete have also been recalled.

Ireland internationals Jordi Murphy and Craig Gilroy have recovered from injury to start for Ulster against Leicester.

Full-back Michael Lowry and blindside flanker Marcell Coetzee will make their European debuts, while Kildare’s Marty Moore is among the replacements.

Caolin Blade replaces the injured Kieran Marmion at scrum-half for Connacht's Challenge Cup match against Bordeaux.

Props Peter McCabe and Conor Care and hooker Shane Delahunt have been given their first starts of the season.


At the British Masters, England’s Eddie Pepperell leads on 8 under par.

Defending champion Paul Dunne is just underway
Padraig Harrington teed off at 12.45 on 1 over;

Shane Lowry is 2 over par after 15.


Today’s racing is in Downpatrick from 2pm; and in Dundalk from 5.30
