"Macho" Language Used In Job Adverts Turns Women Off Applying: Study

: 13/01/2021 - 16:25

A new study suggests macho language in job adverts is putting off almost half of women from applying.

Broadband operator OpenReach in the UK found women's interest in an engineering role increased by more than 200% when changes were made to the advert's language.

Phrases like "getting your hands dirty" and "being on the road in your van" put women off.
