Counsel for Maurice McCabe has told the Disclosures Tribunal that there was a pattern of utter denial and evasion of responsibility by Tusla staff examining a false allegation against the Garda Whistleblower.
Michael McDowell says it’s not credible that Sgt McCabe’s file was simply selected at random at a time when a social worker was catching up on paperwork, arguing that it was more likely that action was taken on the file because he was prominent nationally.
Mr McDowell said errors made by a HSE social worker were corrected, in stark contrast to what happened in Tusla.
Counsel for Tusla said there was no evidence of malicious intent to disseminate information about Maurice McCabe, saying the Tribunal should not reject testimony of staff in favour of a theory.
