Lunch Update: Spain Sack Their Manager & Kildare Juniors Into Leinster Final

Spain have sacked manager Julen Lopetegui just at day before the start of the World Cup.

It follows yesterday's announcement that the 51 year old former goalkeeper would be taking over at Real Madrid after the World Cup.

The Spanish FA says they dismissed the manager because the Real Madrid appointment was made without their knowledg

Spain open their Group B campaign against Portugal on Friday.

USA, Mexico and Canada will host the 2026 World Cup.

The joint bid has been selected following a vote at the FIFA annual congress in Moscow.  Morocco was the other bidder.

The Kildare and District Underage League (KDUL) has qualified for today’s quarter finals of the national Kennedy Cup in Limerick.

Yesterday, in the group stages, they beat West Cork 2 nil with goals from captain Alex Conlon.

Then, they won 4 nil against South Dublin with goals from Dean Owens (2), Alex Conlan and Jamie Duggan

They play Limerick in today’s quarter final.

 

Kildare Junior footballers have qualified for the Leinster final.

Last night, in Drogheda, they beat Louth by 2-19 to 0-8 – a 17 points winning margin

They will play Meath in the final in Croke Park in two weeks time, as a curtain raiser to the Dublin/Laois senior final.

Kildare’s Barry Noone had 1-5 on the board in the opening 20 minutes, as Kildare dominated matters to lead 1-5 to no score for Louth.

By half time, Kildare lead by 1-11 to 0-4 points.

Kildare were out of sight when Mark Nolan scored Kildare’s 2nd goal after 45 minutes, as Kildare cruised to a 17 points win: 2-19 to 0-8

Maynooth will play Moorefield in the final.

 

Galway play their first ever game in the Leinster Under 21 Hurling Championship this evening against Offaly in O'Connor Park.

Mullingar is the venue for the night's other quarter final between Westmeath and Dublin.
