Listen: Minister Says Rate Of Rent Increase Is Slowing.

The Housing Minister says there's been a significant slowing down in rent increases.

Eoghan Murphy says they only went up by 1 per cent in Dublin in the first quarter of the year.

Reacting to the Residential Tenancies Board Rent Index Report, he acknowledges that rents are still too high in many parts of the country.

Rents in Kildare were averaging at €1,122 during that period.

The Simon Communities National Spokesperson Niamh Randall says early intervention's needed in tackling this national problem:
