An Bord Pleanala has granted planning permission for the €34 million Athy Southern Distributor Road project.
The national planning authority confirmed on Thursday that it had arrived at a determination on Kildare County Council's planning application.
ABP won't, however, publish the relevant order until Monday
The road was first proposed in the 1970s, as a solution to chronic traffic congestion in Athy town centre
A three day oral hearing on the planning application took place in Athy in July
Sinn Fein Athy Municipal District Councillor, Thomas Redmond, says there is only one remaining stumbling block.
Cllr. Redmond was Shane Beatty's guest on Kildare Today.
