Prices were 1 per cent lower in December compared to the same month the previous year.
Over the year, the most significant drop in prices occurred in Clothing and Footwear at 7.8 per cent, transport costs fell by over 4 per cent and household goods also fell by around 4 per cent.
However, there were increases in health, restaurants and hotels, drink and tobacco.
