Listen: Panda Waste Says Introduction Of Recycling Charges Follows A Year Of Consideration.

Panda Waste says it's taken it almost a year to bring in green bin charges because the company wants people to continue recycling.

It's blaming the introduction of fees on China, which is no longer accepting recycling waste from Europe.

Customers will now pay 80 cents per lift and just under 5 cents for every kilo, or around 21 euro a year.

Kildare North Social Democrat TD, Catherine Murphy, says the move "is a significant retrograde step which will have far reaching consequences for Ireland’s overall environmental policy."

She adds that its likely other providers will follow suit.

Panda's Head of Recycling Des Crinion says it's not a decision the company has taken lightly:
