Chris Barrett has become the fifth Mayo footballer in recent weeks to retire from inter-county football.
The Belmullet defender started last month’s All Ireland final defeat to Dublin.
Barrett won seven Connacht titles and an Allianz National League in his twelve years on the panel.
The 33-year old had just been nominated for an All-Star, alongside eleven of his Mayo teammates.
Dublin dominate the list of nominees with thirteen.
Brian Fenton and Ciaran Kilkenny are in the running for Footballer of the Year along with Mayo’s Cillian O’Connor.
