Number Of Politicians Give Evidence To Disclosures Tribunal

: 04/16/2018 - 18:34

A number of politicians have been giving evidence at the Disclosure’s Tribunal.

Michael Martin, Eoghan Murphy and Pat Rabbitte were before the Tribunal today, which is investigating if senior gardai tried to smear the whistleblower Maurice McCabe.

Fianna Fail leader Michael Martin was first up on day 66 of the Tribunal.

He said there were general rumours about garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe circulating in 2014 in political and media circles.

He said he had met him and felt he was a person to be believed and what he was saying about the allegations within the gardai was correct.

While Former Labour Minister Pat Rabbitte told the Tribunal his driver – who was a former garda - told him in 2014 - his colleagues believed Maurice McCabe couldn’t be trusted with children.

However, the driver John Kennedy denies he ever said this or would ever say this.

Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy also gave evidence and he said when he was a member of the PAC there was a rumour going around that Maurice McCabe and another whistleblower were odd - but he discounted those rumours.

He felt it was obvious people were trying to discredit the evidence from the whistleblowers because it was uncomfortable.
