Wednesday Morning Sport: Legendary Jockey Pat Smullen Dies At The Age Of 43, Following Battle With Pancreatic Cancer.

Legendary Jockey Pat Smullen has died, aged 43, following a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

During his 26-year career, the head jockey for Curragh trainer Dermot Weld for many years, won 9 Irish Jockeys' championships, 12 European Classics, 8 Royal Ascot winners, the Irish Derby, the 2016 Epsom Derby for Weld, on Harzand, and more than 1,900 races worldwide. 

During his illness he raised hundreds of thousands of euro for cancer research. 

A native of Rhode, Co. Offaly, he is survived by his wife Frances & children Hannah, Paddy & Sarah.
