Listen: €2.4M Spent On Emergency Accommodation In Kildare This Year.

: 09/16/2020 - 15:11

Some B&Bs across Ireland are making up to 740-thousand euro a year providing emergency accommodation for the homeless.

There's been a 140% increase in the amount of money spent in Kildare housing homeless families in hotels, hostels and B&Bs over the past four years.

The Irish Independent reports the figure in Kildare in 2016 was €976,559 and has risen to €2.4m.

More than 276 million euro has gone to private providers like hotels and hostels across ten counties

Mike Allen from Focus Ireland says a huge chuck of money is being spent on emergency accommodation rather than fixing the problem;
