A contractor has been appointed to remediate Kerdiffstown Landfill, and turn the site in to a public park.
The illegal dump, just outside Naas, is home to over 3 million tonnes of rubbish.
Kildare County Council is managing remediation of the land in a multi-year project, which, over its entire lifetime,is to cost around €30 million.
It has appointed Wills Bros Limited as the contractor for Kerdiffstown Park project.
It says "This is a very significant engineering project" which will take around 4.5 years and result in a public park, all-weather sports pitches, playground and walking paths
Works will be commencing on site next month
