A Limerick man who suffered a catastrophic stroke while in Turkey has died.

52-year-old Liam McCarthy was in the resort area of Fethiye in February when it happened.

He was put on life support and his family flew to the country to be by his side.

A GoFundMe page set up by Liam's sister Elaine to help cover his medical costs, has raised 40 thousand euro to date.

Earlier today, she posted an update to say that it's "with great sadness" that they announce Liam had passed away.

She says the family is heartbroken but have been overwhelmed by the generosity of friends, family and strangers.
