Thursday Afternoon Sport: Bennett Wins Intermediate Sprint On Stage 18 Of Tour De France & Shamrock Rovers Host AC Milan Tonight.

Ireland's Sam Bennett has won the intermediate sprint on today's Stage 18 of the Tour de France.

Bennett has won 20 more points to move to 298 in total and he increases his lead to 52-points over Peter Sagan in the points classification.


Shamrock Rovers host seven-time European champions AC Milan in the second qualifying round of the Europa League.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to feature for the Italian side in their first competitive game of the season - Kick off at Tallaght Stadium is 7.

Before that at 6.30, Dundalk are away to Inter Escaldes from Andorra.

Elsewhere Tottenham are in Bulgaria to face Lokomotiv Plovdiv.

Rangers take on Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar.

Coleraine face Motherwell and Linfield take on Maltese club Florian.


There are also three more second round ties in the E-F-L Cup.

Burnley host Sheffield United, Wolves take on Stoke City and Brighton face Portsmouth.


Reports in the UK say that Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign midfielder Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.

It's understood the fee will be at least 22 million euro plus 5.5 million in add-ons - with the player signing a four-year contract.

The 29-year-old Spanish international joined the German giants from Barcelona in 2013 and played in last season's Champions League final victory over Paris Saint-Germain.

He is set to wear the number six shirt at Anfield.

The second major of the year, the US Open, gets underway in New York today.
