Almost 1 in 5 people was living in "enforced deprivation" last year, according to the latest CSO survey on Income and Living Conditions.
That proportion, when applied to Co. Kildare, equates to 44,400 people.
"Enforced deprivation" is described as not being able to afford two basics such as heating the home or buying presents for family once a year.
The figure of 18.8 percent is down 2.2 percent on 2016.
