Weds Lunch Sport: Sport Ireland Seek FAI Response re: Delaney 100k FAI Loan; 2020 6 Nations Fixtures Confirmed

The FAI says it will respond to Sport Ireland at the "earliest opportunity" after being asked about a 2017 'bridging loan'.

Sport Ireland is seeking "urgent clarification" from the Association after it admitted borrowing 100-thousand euro from Chief Executive John Delaney.

The Association says it had a short-term cash-flow issue, but Sport Ireland say it was never made aware of any financial issues.

Aiden O'Brien will link up with the Republic of Ireland squad today as the countdown continues to the opening Euro 2020 qualifier against Gibraltar.

The Millwall striker has been called up to Mick McCarthy's panel as a replacement for Shane Long who has a groin injury.

Long's absences means another former Cork City star Sean Maguire could make his first competitive start for Ireland at the Victoria Stadium on Saturday.

The Preston North End striker it tipped to play up front along side David McGoldrick.

 

The Under 19s have had the ideal start to their European Championship Elite Round qualification campaign.

They beat Romania 5-nil in their first game at the mini tournament in Russia.

Southampton's Jonathan Afolabi and Will Smallbone both scored twice.

The Republic of Ireland Women's under-17s begin the elite phase of their Euro qualifying campaign against Norway in Edinburgh this evening.

The Six Nations fixtures for 2020 have been released.

Ireland will kick off their first Championship campaign under Andy Farrell with back to back home games against Scotland and Wales.

They will host Scotland and Wales, before a trip to face England in Twickenham.

The Irish team will return to the Aviva Stadium to play Italy, before a final weekend showdown with France in Paris.

Leinster Senior Coach Stuart Lancaster is considering Irish citizenship.

The former England coach, who has been working with the Province since 2016, has agreed a new two year deal.

New Zealander Joe Schmidt became as Irish citizen in 2015.

None of the Welsh regions will be axed next season.

Officials in Wales have announced the Cardiff Blues, Dragons, Ospreys and Scarlets will continue to compete in the Pro 14 and European competitions.

The news comes two weeks after a proposed merger between Ospreys and Scarlets collapsed.

Dublin hope to have Paddy Andrews back for their Leinster Championship quarter final.

The St. Brigid's forward suffered a broken jaw during Saturday night's Allianz Football League defeat to Tyrone.

Andrews is expected to be out for at least six weeks.

Kildare footballers returned to training last night ahead of next Sunday’s vital game against Donegal.

Kildare can still win promotion, but will have to beat Donegal and hope that Meath beat Fermanagh.

The game in Ballyshannon throws in at 2pm.

Kfm will have commentary in association with Hanlon Concrete Robertstown.
