Football focus turns to the county senior footballers this week ahead of next Sunday’s Leinster championship game against Carlow in Tullamore at 2pm.

The team completed a three day training camp yesterday in the Johnstown Estate Hotel.

***This evening’s Kildare Scoreboard at 6.30 will hear from Cian O’Neill and Kevin Feeley

Cork star Rena Buckley has confirmed her retirement from inter-county action.

The dual star won 18 All Ireland titles in Camogie and football in a dazzling career with Cork.

The 31 years old won 11 senior All Ireland Football titles, and seven senior All Ireland Camogie medals and is still just 31.

Bohemians goalkeeper Shane Supple has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad for the friendlies with France and the USA.

Former Republic of Ireland midfielder Darron Gibson has been give a two-year community order and banned from driving for 40 months after he admitted drink driving.

The Court was informed that the former Sunderland player was going through a number of psychological issues at the time, for which he is now receiving treatment. 

Sunderland suspended Gibson with immediate effect after he was charged with drink driving in March: his 2nd such offence in three years.

The World Amateur Team Championships will be staged at Carton House in Maynooth this Autumn.

Teams from 72 countries will stay in Maynooth, the majority in a special ‘Athlete Village’ style campus in Maynooth University.

Golfers, captains and officials begin arriving from 24th August with the women’s world championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy getting underway from 29th August. A week later the men’s teams arrive and the Eisenhower Trophy competition tees off on 5th September.

Royal Hague hosts this year’s European Amateur Championship from June 27th to 30th and the Golfing Union of Ireland has named a six-man squad for the trip to the Netherlands.


Robin Dawson (Tramore), Alex Gleeson (Castle), Rowan Lester (Hermitage), Tiarnan McLarnon (Massereene), Conor Purcell (Portmarnock) and Jonathan Yates (Naas).


Jonathan Yates has also been named on the Ireland team for the for the St Andrews Links Trophy.


A vet who has worked with Willie Mullins for the past decade has been charged with passing on inside information.

Tim Brennan is accused of informing his brother about an injury sustained by favourite Faugheen prior to his withdrawl from the 2016 Cheltenham Festival.

Brennan's brother Michael is accused of using the information to his advantage in the betting market.

Mullins is not involved in the case brought by the B-H-A and there's no suggestion he or his yard were aware of the Brennans' actions.
