Listen: Retailers Deny Consumers Are Being "Fleeced" By Vouchers

A Kildare TD is bringing forward a Bill aimed at stopping firms using overly restrictive terms and conditions on vouchers.

Social Democrats co-leader and Kildare North TD Catherine Murphy says "Irish consumers continue to be “fleeced” by merchants selling gift vouchers with overly restrictive terms and conditions."

Deputy Murphy is launching the details of the Bill today, aimed at stopping retailers imposing expiration limits of less than five years on vouchers while prohibiting a range of charges connected to their use.

Currently retailers can set whatever time limits on usage they want and can impose charges on inactive cards.

Speaking to Kfm, Deputy CEO of Retail Excellence Ireland Lorraine Higgins, denies that consumers are being "fleeced":
