Weds Lunch Sport: Ireland Soccer Squad, Including Maynooth’s Mark Travers in Portugal; New Role for Lam at Bristol

: 05/22/2019 - 12:33

Mick McCarthy says he will start with the same players that won against Georgia for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Denmark and Gibraltar.

McCarthy has also said he won't give teenage call up 18 years old Bolton midfielder Luca Connell a senior cap for the sake of it.

The Ireland squad is this week in Portugal for a training camp.

Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers is with the group.

The Maynooth native 20-year-old is one of a host of young talented goalkeeper and is currently ahead of Caoimhin Kelleher, Gavin Bazunu and Kieran O'Hara in the international pecking order.

Chris Hughton has revealed he was "hugely disappointed and surprised" to be sacked by Brighton.
Hughton guided the Seagulls to promotion to the Premier League in 2017, but was sacked after their final game of a season in which they finished 17th, two points ahead of third-bottom Cardiff.

In a statement, the League Managers Association say Hughton had been an inspiration for helping turn Brighton's fortunes around during his time at the club.

Arsenal have branded it 'unacceptable' that Henrikh Mkhitaryan couldn't be assured of his safety at the Europa League Final, prompting the Armenian skipper to miss the game.

There are political tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan, with the final to be staged against Chelsea in Baku on May 29th.

Petr Cech will return to Chelsea this summer in a new Sporting Director role at the club.

The Arsenal goalkeeper will retire from playing after next Wednesday's Europa League final in Azerbaijan against his former - and future - employers.

Former Connacht coach Pat Lam has signed a new four-year contract at Bristol.

The New Zealander will assume the new title of Director of Rugby.

Lam led the club to a ninth place finish in the English top-flight this season.
