Thursday AM Sport: Irish Rugby Team To Play England To Be Named This Morning.

: 08/22/2019 - 08:08

The Irish team to take on England at Twickenham on Saturday, is set to be named this morning.

Leinster's Ross Byrne is expected to get the nod at out-half in the World Cup warm-up game, after Johnny Sexton sat out Tuesday's training session in Portugal.

It is understood the Kilkenny County Board will be appealing Richie Hogan's red card from Sunday's All-Ireland final defeat to Tipperary.

The Danesfort clubman will miss the opening game of the 2020 championship as things stand.

The Irish Independent are reporting this morning that Kilkenny are awaiting the contents of referee James Owens' match report to see what Hogan is cited for.

2014 Hurler of the Year Hogan is said to be fully behind the appeal, and the player and county board are understood to have discussed the matter informally.

Last night's Kildare GAA club results, in the Manguard Plus Minor A Football Championship:

Kilcullen 2-11 Leixlip 0-7

Sarsfields 0-12 Athy 0-9

Clane 1-6 Celbridge 1-5

Naas 2-11 St. Laurences 1-3

Onto soccer, Celtic take on AIK Stockholm tonight, as they seek to bounce back from their Champions League exit, with the winners progressing to the group stages of the Europa League.

Kick-off at Celtic Park is at 7.45pm.

In golf, Gavin Moynihan is out on the course at the Scandinavian Invitation Tournament in Sweden.

The Dubliner is 1 over, through two holes in the European Tour event, with France's Alexander Levy the early leader on 4 under.

Paul Dunne and Michael Hoey will tee off later.
