The use of Gardai to transport people to supervise people in mandatory hotel quarantine, would not be the optimal use of limited Garda resources, according to the Policing Authority.
In its latest report on the performance of an Garda Siochana during the Covid crisis it says they may have a role in responding to incidents at those facilities.
The report notes 5,784 fixed charges had been issued by Gardai for breaches of COVID-19 regulations.
Approximately 85 percent of those fines were issued to people leaving their homes without a reasonable excuse.
