Paul Broderick kicked 11 points to see Carlow through to the Leinster semi-final and dump Kildare out o the Leinster championship in the process in Tulamore this afternoon.
Carlow were quickest all over the field and went into the break with a five point lead. Where Carlow were ruthless in front of goal, Kildare were wasteful.
Place ball specialist Moorefield’s Eanna O’Connor, who was making his championship debut in the Kildare jersey was having a horrid afternoon from the placed ball which included a penalty miss, was hauled ashore by Cian O’Neill with just thirty minutes gone in the first half but the change had little effect as the first half drew to a close with Kildare continuing to be wasteful in front of goal.
Carlow again started brightly in the second half and with Broderick in free flowing scoring form Kildare could never close the gap below three for the remainder of the match and lost out on a final score line of 1-10 to 2-14.
Carlow deservedly go forward to face Laois in the Leinster semi –final, a repeat of this years Division 4 league final whilst for Cian O’Neill and his charges they will await tomorrows qualifier draw to see who they will face next as they attempt to rescue a season that has now seen the lilywhites set a new record of 12 competitive losses in a row.
