Students may be kept apart in small groups or 'pods' when schools reopen.
The Irish Times reports it's one of the measures being looked at by officials in the Department of Education.
It's aimed at getting as many students back into the classroom full-time, with up to four 'pods' of 16 pupils being considered under current social distancing rules.
Yesterday the Taoiseach announced schools would reopen again at the end of August.
