Listen: IBTS Director Ends Kfm Interview When Pressed On 8 Month Delay In Releasing Information About Hep. B Infection.

: 08/31/2017 - 11:46

One of the directors of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service has abruptly ended an interview on Kfm, rather than answer questions on the timing of the IBTS release of information on a person's infection with Hepatitis B via blood transfusion.

IBTS stated yesterday that the donation of infected blood was made in the window period when the presence of the virus cannot be detected even by the most sensitive tests available.

The IBTS says this is a rare one in two million event - and does not have any implications for blood that will be transfused in the future.

Dr. Stephen Field is Medical and Scientific Director of the IBTS.

Speaking to Shane Beatty on Kildare Today, he declined to elaborate on the reasons why this information was not made public more swiftly.
