Three people have been killed and five injured in a knife attack in the German city of Wurzburg.

Pedestrians surrounded the attacker and held him off with chairs and sticks.

Police shot and arrested a 24 year old Somali man - who'd been receiving psychiatric treatment prior to the incident.

Police identified the Würzburg attacker as a 24-year-old Somali national that lived in the city. The motive behind the attack is not yet clear.
